Durante todo el primer mes, sigue la tediosa fabricación de las
cuadernas/mamparos, cortando terciados y encolándoles los marcos.
Aquí estamos encolando los espejos de popa. /
During all the first month, the tedious making of the bulkheads continues,
cutting plywood and glueing frames.

El encolado de los marcos se ve ayudado enormemente por los clavos de la
foto, (temporarios), que evitan que las maderas se corran de la posición
adecuada, patinando sobre la resina, (que es resbalosa como grasa). /
Glueing the frames is made much easier by the
(temporary) nails on the picture, which stops the wood from sliding over the
resin (which is slippery as grease).

Los marcos de los mamparos y del espejo de popa (foto) se refuerzan con
tornillos de acero inoxidable. Las muescas en ambos costados son para las
varengas. / The bulkheads and transom (photo)
frames are reinforced with stainless steel screws. The notches at both sides
are for the stringers.

La tarea empieza a ir más rápido con la incorporación de un nuevo
ayudante. / The work starts to go faster with the
addition of a new helper.

6. Armado de la estructura ("Columna Vertebral" y Base para las Cuadernas)
/ Building of
the structure (Backbone and Bulkheads base).

Este aglomerado se cortará en varias tablas, con las cuales se hará una "columna
vertebral" para la estructura de cuadernas. Es provisoria, y se retira una vez
colocadas las serretas, el forro del casco y la quilla. Se reutilizará para
el segundo casco y garantizar así que queden identicos. /
This chipboard will be cut in several planks, which
will be used to make a backbone for the bulkheads structure. It's temporary,
and will be removed once the stringers, the keel and the planking are
finished. The will be used again in the second hull, so as to warrant they
are identical.

Se colocan las tablas siguiendo el perfil interno de la quilla, que
luego se
dibuja cuidadosamen-te. Casi invisible en la foto, un piolín tenso (flechas), marca la línea de
flotación, con respecto a la cual se toman todas las medidas. /
The planks are placed following the keel line,
which is carefully drawn. Almost invisible in the picture, a tight string
(arrows), shows the waterline, from where the measures are taken.

The backbone is cut. The keel shape can be guessed
(aft at the bottom of the picture and bow above).

Se arma la base sobre la que se montarán, (boca abajo), las cuadernas,
una especie de riel de 8,60 mts.. Cada travesaño del riel corresponde a una cuaderna, siendo el primero
empezando de abajo, para el espejo de popa, y el último para la roda. Al igual que la "columna vertebral", el mismo riel se vuelve a usar para
armar el otro casco, lo que garantiza que sean iguales. /
The building frame is built. The bulkheads will be fitted upside down over
the 8,60 metres wood track. Each crossbeam belongs to a bulkhead (the first
one starting from below, is for the transom). The same frame will be used
for building the other hull, to warrant the similarity.

Antes de montar las cuadernas, se aprovecha el riel para empalmar (por
solapado), las serretas, que deberán tener casi 9 metros de largo. Ahí se
pueden clavar para que no se desalineen, durante el encolado. /
Before fitting the bulkheads, the frame is used to join stringers (by
scarphing), which need to need to be almost 9 metres long. They can be
nailed to keep the lining up during the glueing.

Antes de colocar la "columna vertebral", hay que rebajar las puntas de
uno tornillos excesivamente largos, que sobresalen, para no clavárselos. /
Before fitting the backbone, the tip of some oversized screws must be
removed.

Se empiezan a colocar las demás cuadernas, montando entre ellos la "columna
vertebral" provisoria, que servirá para dar rigidez y forma al conjunto, hasta que
se haya laminado la quilla interna, colocado las serretas y forrado el casco.
/ The rest of the bulkheads are fitted, putting
between them the temporary backbone, which will give rigidity and shape to
the structure, untill the inner keel has been laminated, the stringers
fitted and the hull planked.

Visto desde la popa (lo primero que se ve es el espejo). Las piezas rectangulares que sobresalen a la izquierda forman parte del
"ala" ("wing"), una sección anexa al casco, (característico de muchos
de los diseños de Woods), que sirve para estiba desde adentro y también
ofrece lugares para guardar cosas desde el cockpit. /
Viewed from the aft end (first thing you see is the
transom). The
rectangular pieces to the left are part of the wing, (a common feature in
most Wood's designs), which is a section of the hull that allows space for
storing away equipment from the inside or from the cockpit.

alineación de las cuadernas. / The thight string
shows the waterline and guarantees the bulkheads' correct aligment.

Finalmente, quedan montados toda la columna vertebral, el espejo de
popa, todas las cuadernas, y la roda interna. /
Finaly, the whole backbone, the transom, all bulkheads and inner stem,
mounted.

Si lo damos vuelta y lo miramos desde el nivel de la línea de flotación
(a nivel del piolín), ya podemos imaginar la forma de uno de los cascos. /
If we turn it the right way up and view it from the
waterline level (where the string is), we can imagine the shape of one of
the hulls.

empalmados, se les dibuja y se recortala forma de la quilla. /
Building the inner keel: about 9 metres of scarphed
plywood are drawn and cut with the keel shape.

La primera capa de la quilla interna, (de terciado), se fija a las
cuadernas. / The first layer of the inner keel is
glued to the bulkheads.

Se instalan los dos marcos temporarios (flechas). Ayudan a mantener la
forma del casco durante la colocación del forro de terciado. /
Two temporary frames (arrows) are installed. They help keeping the hull
shape during planking with plywood.
